What Is Cleaning at Sakura Platinum Dental Clinic?
Professional dental cleaning at our clinic removes plaque, tartar, and stains (such as from tea or tobacco) using specialized tools. Cleaning is also referred to as scaling or tartar removal, especially when focusing on the removal of hardened plaque.
This procedure helps restore your teeth to their natural beauty and healthy state. Our trained professionals thoroughly clean areas that daily brushing can’t reach, reducing the risk of cavities, gum disease, and bad breath. Your teeth will feel smoother and appear naturally whiter after treatment.
Recommended For:
・Want clean, smooth, and whiter teeth by removing tartar and stains
・Wish to prevent cavities and gum disease
・Want teeth that are more resistant to staining
・Are concerned about bad breath or rough tooth surfaces
・Want to enhance whitening results by ensuring even gel application
Daily Brushing Only Removes 50–60% of Dirt
Do you think daily brushing is enough, and there’s no need to visit the dentist for a cleaning?
In fact, it’s estimated that brushing alone only removes about 50–60% of buildup on your teeth. Even with careful brushing, overlapping teeth or brushing habits can cause unnoticed plaque accumulation. This plaque can harden over time, combining with minerals in saliva to form tartar, which cannot be removed by brushing alone.
Regular professional cleanings help remove tartar and stains, preventing future dental issues. Polishing the tooth surface also makes it more difficult for dirt and bacteria to stick, helping keep your teeth cleaner for longer.
Let us help you maintain your oral health.
(Many patients who receive in-office whitening at our clinic also choose to have professional cleaning every three months as part of their maintenance routine.)

Cleaning & Fluoride therapy Procedure
Step 01: Examination & Consultation

We begin by examining your oral condition and discussing your concerns. Based on both your input and diagnostic results, we provide personalized cleaning suited to your needs.
Step 02: Plaque & Tartar Removal

Using ultrasonic instruments, we remove plaque and tartar from the tooth surface and around the gumline.
Step 03: Stain Removal

Different types of brushes and tools are used to remove surface stains, including those between teeth and in deep grooves.
Step 04: Polishing

We polish the teeth using a fine-grain paste to make the surface smooth, helping prevent future buildup.
Step 05: Advice from the Dental Hygienist

We apply a fluoride-based hydroxyapatite coating to enhance shine and help maintain cleanliness. When applied after thorough cleaning, it smooths the tooth surface and reduces the likelihood of staining.
High-concentration fluoride is also applied directly to dentin and root surfaces to reduce sensitivity and help maintain a clean, white appearance.
It strengthens the teeth and is recommended for cavity prevention.
FAQ
Q. What’s the difference between dental cleaning and whitening?
A. Cleaning does not whiten the teeth themselves, but removes stains and plaque from the surface. This alone can restore your teeth to their natural whiteness. However, if you’d like to brighten the color of your actual teeth beyond their natural shade, we recommend combining your cleaning with whitening treatment.
Q. Does dental cleaning cause pain?
A. We do our best to minimize discomfort during cleaning. However, because water is used during the procedure, people with sensitive teeth may experience some temporary discomfort. In some cases, after removing tartar, you may feel increased sensitivity around the gum line due to the small gaps that were previously filled. If you feel any discomfort, please don’t hesitate to speak with your dentist or dental hygienist.
Q. How often should I get my teeth professionally cleaned?
A. The ideal frequency depends on your brushing habits, alignment of your teeth, and lifestyle. While cleanings are generally recommended every 3 to 6 months, the optimal schedule may vary. We suggest consulting with your dentist or dental hygienist to determine a cleaning routine that fits your needs and lifestyle.
Even if you’ve never had a professional cleaning before, we invite you to visit Sakura Platinum Dental Clinic and experience the feeling of a truly clean and healthy smile!
